How to Choose Mousse Tubes for Enduro, MX and Rally

Published June 24, 2026 · Shawn, Sales Manager

For off-road riders, a puncture doesn't just end a race — deep in the backcountry it can end a trip. A mousse takes a different approach: the tire runs on a foam ring instead of an air-filled tube.

How a mousse tube works

A mousse is a foam ring that goes inside an off-road tire instead of an inner tube. The foam supports the tire the way air would, and with no air inside, a puncture can't leave the rider with a flat.

Because there is no air to lose, there are no pressure checks before a ride. The trade-off is that a mousse is a consumable: heat and flex gradually soften the foam with use.

Sizing: the detail that makes or breaks the product

A mousse must match the tire's inner volume closely. Too small and the tire feels vague and the mousse overheats from movement; too large and mounting becomes a wrestling match. When you import, order by tire size, not just rim size — a 140/80-18 rally tire and a 120/90-18 enduro tire take different mousses on the same rim. Our mousse range lists all 15 sizes by rim; send us your tire sizes and we confirm the match.

Three things to tell your customers

  • Use mounting gel — always. The gel lubricates the foam-to-tire interface and dissipates heat. Mounting without gel shortens the life of the mousse.
  • Off-road only. Sustained high-speed pavement riding overheats foam. Mousses are for dirt, sand and rock — that's also what your liability terms should say.
  • Inspect at tire changes. When the foam noticeably softens or shrinks, it's done. Riders who rotate mousses front-to-rear stretch total life considerably.

Why mousse belongs in an importer's range

Mousse tubes carry a much higher unit value than air tubes, attach naturally to knobby tire sales, and have built-in repeat purchase because they are consumables. If you already sell off-road tires or heavy-duty tubes, mousse is the highest-margin line extension available in the category.

Send us your wheel sizes and monthly volumes and we'll put together a starter mix with the fast-moving front/rear combinations for your market.
